Claim steps

After a car crash: the steps, in order

What to bring, what we bill and what your insurer decides.

Michigan's no-fault rules mean your own auto insurer is the first place a claim goes, whoever caused the crash. Which care it pays for, and how much, is the insurer's decision, and it can change from claim to claim. Here is what we do and what we leave to you.

We are a clinic, not a claims service. We don't promise a result from your claim, and we don't tell you what to say to an insurer.

Before you come

What to bring to the first visit

  • About the crash

So we know what happened and when.

    • The date of the crash

    • What your doctor or urgent care told you

  • About your claim

So we know where to send bills.

    • Your claim number

    • The adjuster's name and phone

    • The name of your auto policy holder

  • About you

So the visit starts on time.

    • A photo ID

    • A list of the medicines you take

    • Loose clothes you can roll up at the knee and elbow

  • Your questions

We'd rather answer them at the start.

    • Who is paying for visits

    • Whether the insurer wants notes from us

    • What a written estimate would include

Three roles

Who does what

  • What the practice does

Treats you, writes visit notes, sends itemized bills to whoever is paying and answers the insurer's requests for records.

  • What the insurer decides

Whether acupuncture is covered on your claim, how much is payable and whether it wants another opinion.

  • What stays with you

Choosing a claim representative or an attorney, what you tell your insurer and whether to keep coming.

Questions about claims

Do I need a claim before I book?

No. If your claim isn't open yet, or you don't know who your adjuster is, call us. We can book you and tell you what to bring to a later visit.

How many visits will the insurer pay for?

We can't say. That is the insurer's decision. We write a plan with you, and we tell you how many visits we suggest, without a promise about what will be paid.

What do you send the insurer?

Itemized bills, and our visit notes if the insurer asks for them. We don't send anything about your claim that you haven't told us to send.

Can I switch to paying myself?

Yes, at any visit. We give you a written estimate first, and a receipt after each visit.

Will you talk to my attorney?

If you ask us to, we'll send your records to your attorney's office. You tell us who to send them to.

Do you see people who weren't hurt in a car crash?

Yes. Many of our patients come in for other reasons. Ask the front desk and we'll tell you what to expect.

Ready to book your first visit?

Call the front desk, or send a message. We'll tell you what to bring and what to ask your insurer.
